On February 23, 2022, Matthew Kamaliza, the national coordinator of Lydia Action met with the Honorable Dr Patricia Kaliati, Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, at Capital Hill in Lilongwe. The visit was aimed at pledging continued and strengthened partnership with the Malawi government and supporting the acceleration of Malawi Vision 2063, particularly the MIP-1 and the COVID-19 socio-economic recovery plan. Lydia Actions’ 2021-2030 Strategy dubbed “Dream30,” is focused on women, children, youth, and the elderly, as well as humanitarian assistance. Kamaliza explained that “the strategy is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Malawi Vision 2063 and will guide implementation of interventions to achieve Lydia Action’s goals, collaboration for stronger collective results and propel the organization’s development agenda forward.” He then delivered Lydia Action’s annual report for the year 2021, titled “Together Forward.” In her remarks, Kaliati singled out Lydia Action’s commitment to supporting women’s economic empowerment and children’s education in Zomba and Lilongwe districts, where the Bakat and European Baptist Mission International (EBMI) projects are being implemented. The minister further commended the organization for emulating the government in focusing more on young people through their leadership and the youth development and leadership programme being implemented with partner universities in Malawi with the aim of equipping young prospective university students with practical knowledge, skills, and tools to meaningfully contribute to the humanitarian and development sector in the country. “As a youth led organisation, we understand the importance of the young people and the potential they have in contributing to the development of this nation, that’s why we are committed to empowering the youth” Said Kamaliza. He also thanked the minister for the government’s unwavering support which the organisation continues to leverage in implementing its interventions.
