What We Do
We are working in three districts across all three regions of Malawi;
Rumphi in the Northern Region, Lilongwe in the central region and Zomba in the southern region where we are implementing our flagship project with the European Baptist Mission (EBM Project).
What we hope to see:

The livelihood of women is improved by providing access to technical and financial opportunities to support their income generation activities.
Lydia Action is committed to improve women’s access to suitable and affordable economic resources to help them withstand shocks and fulfill economic and social potential. We work with women to build better livelihoods, earn income, and create small businesses that provide improved financial security so that women can afford healthcare, personal needs for children and improve their quality of life
Lydia Action aims to break the cycle of poverty by strongly considering the relationship between child welfare and their family’s wellbeing. We believe improving access to attainable economic opportunities for women would improve household’s livelihoods and in turn improve the well-being of children.
We work with schools and families in partnership with the government of Malawi to address barriers to quality education for primary school students. Lydia Action supports primary school students to attain basic literacy skills with the support of their parents as first teachers and first protectors. We also engage with churches and communities to remove the cultural barriers that prevent children especially girls from remaining in school. We defend the right of all children to have the right to a safe, inclusive and quality education. Lydia Action is committed to see all children educated in nurturing and safe learning environments to fulfill their potential.
Children are empowered through educational support and provision of psycho-social needs.

Women, children including other vulnerable people affected by sudden emergency onsets are provided with the appropriate assistance.
Lives can change in an instant in the wake of disasters and emergencies. This has been evident with the Covid-19 pandemic. In times of crisis, when resources are strained and capacity is limited, women and children face disproportionate impacts and are exposed to various inequalities from health, economic, security to social protection challenges. When disasters and emergencies happen we are committed to see women and children have access to food, clean water, shelter and other life-saving supplies to support their recovery and mitigate the effects of the crisis.
In Africa the non-profit sector is changing rapidly as the nature of social, human rights and economic problems become as complex as ever and there are a few schools or universities that are keeping up with the pace. Most development or social work students graduating through college would have studied curriculums founded on theory that lack the instilment of the appropriate needs based skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to the industry, and contribute to meaningful change.
Lydia action is committed to develop future leaders through youth development and leadership. Our volunteering and intern programmes focus on grooming future non-profit management leaders to have the right technical, governance and management skills and knowledge to contribute positively to the entire non-profit sector in Malawi and beyond. We partner with universities and colleges to coordinate on helping young people studying towards development and social work to have access to hands-on job training through volunteering and internship with us.
Young university students are empowered through skills development and non-profit management knowledge and experience.
